My son, who is 9, has a different biological father than his brothers, so I am wondering what will happen when he travels to Canada with us. Do I need something from his biological father to show customs? Like a letter? Thanks!

  1. Passport and birth certificate is all you should need.

  2. Ask the state dept, they can let you know the rules, anyone saying different, well  you take that chance.

  3. Just a US Passport

  4. A U.S Passport.

  5. Normally, you would need the child's birth certificate and a letter from the biological father stating that he is aware of the trip to Canada on a certain date for a certain duration and gives his permission...that is if he still has joint custody of the child. If he no longer has custody, the court papers to prove that would suffice.

Since your son is nine and mature enough to understand what the trip is for and where his biological dad is, the agent at the border might ask him a few questions to make sure that you are not trying to smuggle him away from his father.

  6. You need a passport to enter Canada.
