  1. Well you don't need a plane ticket! Kids under 3 fly free on most airlines :) A passport is needed and a birth certificate saying that you are the rightful parent of that child. Also, if you are without husband, or are going without your husband, you will need a letter from him, proving that you are not just 'taking' the baby without his permission.

I suggest you take sunscreen and a hat of somesort for him/her because their skin is delicate and easily sunburned. I suggest not feeding him/her ice as there is a risk, that is not worth taking that that ice may contain hepatitis a or b. If you need ice, make it yourself by freezing bottled water.

  2. your child will need a passport regardless of age !

  3. Your best bet is to check with the State Department, as passport laws are in flux.  That site can also tell you what type of ID will suffice for a toddler.  You should also check with the DR government to find out what their regulations are for visas, etc.  A good travel agent should be able to help you with info about both of these things, too.

If you are traveling without the child's other parent, you will also need a notarized statement from that parent approving the child's travel.  [Some countries may not require this or may not ask for it, but you should have it just in case.]
