What do I need/need to do in order to go hunting?

I've never been hunting, but have shot plenty of guns.

I know I need to apply for a license at a local gun shop (gander mountain, etc.).

I want a shotgun also (Ive seen the prices,so yeah i know they can be expensive).

As for the equipment..I'm oblivious.

I know I don't want anything that's going to give my position away.

Any Ideas as far as necessities go?

Yes, by all means take the hunter safety course. I am old enough not to have to had to go, I learned gun safety and tracking from my Dad and Grand-father. You will need a place to go, always ask permission on private property. A gun, I also recommend a 12 ga shotgun as a first choice. Hunting license, shot shells and depending on what you are hunting, a bright red hat, and maybe a red vest also. If it is deer season with a rifle, or shotgun, stay home. Getting mistaken for a deer while rabbit hunting is no fun. By the way, a shotgun does not have to be real expensive.

You can go hunting in jeans and tennis shoes, but do yourself a favor and get a pair of boots and hunting pants. A good long sleeve shirt, and hunting vest is really all you need. Of course you could take a water bottle, pocket knife, GPS and camo pack, but that is up to you.

I do agree you need to take a hunter safety course so you can get a license. The rest of your equipment depends on what you are hunting and the type of climate. If you are going to purchase a shotgun go with a 12 gauge. Necessities would be a hunting knife, boots, camo, and like I said earlier it depends on what and where you are hunting. If you go to a Gander Mountain or a Cabelas the salesperson should be able to help you ask them for suggestions. Good Luck
