  1. I am assuming that you have already been accepted to college.  What you will need is a copy of your W2's or completed 1040 tax forms and a copy of your parents' W2's or completed 1040 tax forms so that you can answer questions about yearly family income.  Once you are done answering those questions, you will have to decide if you want to live with your parents, on campus, or off campus apartment because there is a question about that.  Then you will need to obtain your college federal code, which can usually be found on the college financial aid website and answer the question about that.  Then you will need to apply for a pin number so that you can electronically sign and submit your FAFSA on the web (takes less time than the paper application).  Then you will wait roughly 4-6 weeks for the government to process your application and see how much of an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) you have.  Then the school will inform you of how much you were awarded in financial aid.

  2. You are probably going to need your parent's tax returns since you probably haven't filed one. that's the biggest part. What you can do is if you know the school you want to go to, ask their financial aid person. They can give you the 411 on it
