Well, not carving, but having a flat piece of wood and carving into it to create a scene, with certain features carved inward and some standing out.

I currently use a wedge from our garage, on plywood, but it's unbelievably hard. My parents suggested that I get REAL woodcarving tools.

How much are they, what do I need, and where should I buy them? (Not professional stores... but places like Hobby Lobby, Walmart, etc.)

  1. wood and a chissel

  2. a nife wood

  3. Get some woood carving tools and a powered dremel tool and some soft wood like basswoood or balsa.

  4. They sell woodcarving knives at woodcraft.com.  Plan to spend about 100 dollars on a starter set.  You might want to invest in a dremel tool, however, unless you're just committed to hand-carving.  Either way, I think it's great to have a hobby you love, so - enjoy!

  5. You need some wood, seriously.

  6. Wood and something sharp.

Really, try a hunk of basswood and pocketknife.
