I am going to Canada to land as permanent resident this weekend, and come back to US immediately. Can someone kindly provide information about:

1. Can I do the landing process during weekend? I mean is the office open and officers working during weekend?

2. What I am supposed to bring besides passport with Canadian immigration visa?

3. What do I need to do after landing?

4. What paper is required to return to US. (I am under H1-b visa)?

Thanks a lot.

  1. Will you be coming into Canada by air or by land? This has to do with the offices of immigration that process landed immigrants. These offices are manned 24 X 7 at the airport, where landed immigrants usually enter the country. But at the border? I am not sure.

Passport and Visa and proof of funds (which you declared in your application, but may or may not be requested). Also all papers given you to submit when you land.

You are going to be processed - given your landing papers and photo taken for your PR card.

You will be asked your (temporary) address here in Canada. I dont know if they will allow your PR card to be sent to the US.

Your H1b, if still valid, is all you need to re-enter the US.** Good luck and congratulations!

  2. Lots of info at www.canada.gc.ca, and no on the weekend qusetion.

Also be aware that their are long line-up to get into these offices, as they are the same offices to get a Canadian Passport, and the new USA rules are forcing Canadians to get passport, were we've never needed them previously.

  3. Marry a canadian woman.

  4. Hey there,

I can refer you to an excellent immigration lawyer that practises both Canadian and US immigration law.

He can do the consultation by phone
