Here's my deal... I want to buy my boyfriend a receiver or whatever he needs in order to have sirius radio in his house. I asked the people at Best Buy and they said I need to know what equipment he currently has in his car. Unfortunately, all I could get out of him is that his car had the equipment installed when he bought it (it's in his radio and is not a stand alone receiver on the dash or anything). He doesn't seem to know what kind of receiver is in his car.

So any thoughts on what all I need to buy? I don't want to mess up and buy him c**p he doesn't need.

thanks :)

  1. Since the car came with a receiver, you can't really remove it and put it in the house.

I did some quick searching at sirius.com and found this kit http://tinyurl.com/5pp7s8 which includes a radio receiver and a little boom box type thing.  Also includes a gift card.  When he goes to activate the new radio, he will be charged an extra $6/mo to have the receiver in his car plus this one activated... So you might want to make sure he really wants to pay that before you drop the cash on it.  That boom box is universal and works with 7 different receivers.  So if you wanted to save some cash and not get him the $50 gift subscription card, you could kind of put your own package together.

The boom box also says it comes with some sort of antenna for indoor usage but I'm not sure the specifics on it.  I would talk to someone directly at Sirius to get more information on how long the antenna is, if it needs to be by a window for reception, etc.

  2. All you need is the radio ID number, call Sirius and pay for a subsription.

  3. here's the problem, the radio he has in his car cannot be taken out & played in his house. In order to do this you will need a new radio, & a docking station for the house. Also you will have to pay for another subscription, which should be about half the original price. Go to Sirius's website & check out radios there.

If you do what the answer above says, you will just extend his subscription, & he still can't play it in his house
