My boyfriend and I want to get married in April of '09. But I don't know what all is needed for a license, or where to go to. He lives in Arkansas and I live in Texas. Both same city, but on different sides of the state line. We also want to get married there at the courthouse, but don't know what all is needed to set that up. I'm so lost! I don't know where to start. Do anyone have any information that can help me out?

  1. You can go onto the State website in the State in which you are to be married to see what the requirements are.  In my state for example, the marriage license is only good for 6 months.  Only one person had to be present to apply but I am sure it varies from State to State.

  2. Call whichever courthouse you plan to marry in.  They will have details what you need to know.  It is different from state to state.

Most likely you will need ID, birth certificate,  blood test results, any legal papers from a divorce or death certificate,

Some states require a witness to get a license, some there is a wait period to get your license after applying & there are some that require you to wait to get married after you get the license.

You will also have to make an appointment with the presiding judge.

  3. Contact the courthouse in the city and state you plan in marrying in.  Each state has certain guidlines.  You need to apply for the liense in person, both of you together.  there should be a waiting period.  you will need Ids, birth certs possible too.  If divorced you will need tht paperwork too.

And you may be required to take a blood test.

  4. Well, Arkansas doesn't have a waiting period, and Texas has a 3 day waiting period.  You didn't say where the courthouse was, but if it's in Arkansas, just walk in get your license and get married.  That's what my husband and I did.

Google "Marriage License Arkansas" and Marriage License Texas" and they will give you the details.

  5. Go to your count website. They will have info there. It is different in different states.

  6. In the state of TX you have to file for a marriage certificate 3 days prior to the wedding date, they have a 72 hour waiting period.  The certificate is good up to 30 days.  Call your local courthouse and find out the details for setting up a courthouse marriage.  I know my license last month was 41 in Tarrant county (fort worth) but in Sept the fees were going up drastically, unless you attend a marriage prep class or pre-marriage counseling.  Here in Fort Worth they offer free classes, so they might also for your county, the clerk of court would possibly have the information or contact the department of health and human services, they too would have information.
