What do I need to do to be able to get my student records from elementry and high school?

I graduated in 2001 in Maryland. What do I need to do to be able to get my records from school. I don't mean my transcripts. I mean the records that schools keep that has notes about you from kindergarten up to 12th grade. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks!

As far as I know, this is seldom asked for, but you should be able to write to the school and request that it be sent to you.  Specify in your written request that the copies include every single sheet of paper in the file, or you'll just get the transcript, I think.  If it's possible for you to visit the school, do so, and you should be given the entire file to read -- then you can specify your request in person and choose which papers you want copied.  I'm not sure elementary records will still be at your elementary school -- they might have been microfilmed or something to save space, or they might have been sent on in their entirety to the next school.
