What do I need to do to get a passport.I want to go to Germany from the U.S.?

I would like to go to Frankfurt Germany from the US.I have never had a passport before.What do I need to do?

You need to sign up for one. You can do that a your local post office, or I had good luck at SpinCityTravel.com. Go to Travel Resources on the front page and click on Passport and Visa Application. You can do the whole thing online. You need at least 8 weeks to process unless you pay the extra expedite fee.

Find somewhere in your area that does passport photos. (We went to Costco). Be sure to get two (2) copies of the photo. Go to a US Post Office (it's owned by the government) and get the passport application. Fill the application out, and return to the Post Office with the completed application and two (2) copies of the photo. If you are under 16, you need to have a parent or legal guardian sign for you. If you're 16 or older, you sign. Also, you (or your parents) have to swear that all the information is correct. Then they (the Post Office) send it to Washington D.C. to do a background check and it will be mailed to your house when they're done. It takes about 1-4 weeks.
