What do I need to do to get a stop sign(s) installed at an intersection?

Where do I need to go? What exactly is it called? Like a community council meeting or something right?

What should I bring with me?

City council, usually. Mileage may vary depending on the exact form of your municipal government, but you need to make a case before them showing that stop signs are needed there.

Go to another community in the middle of the night and steal one...then erect it. Then sit back and laugh as you watch how all the city people assume someone else erected it. The cops will write tickets for new people blowing by the stop sign....the courts won't want to admit that they didn't know who erected the signs...and so they will remain.

Please Google "Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices" or "M.U.T.C.D.".  This is the defining authority for all traffic control devices (stop signs, speed limit signs, warning signs, directional signs, etc.).  Look up STOP signs and there will be a section that defines what is needed to authorize a STOP sign at an intersection.  They are called "Warrants".

If any of  the Warrants justify a STOP sign then you would need to present this to the regulating body authority such as a city council, community council.

It would be a good thing to back up your request with statistics and give a valid reason for the need of a sign. How many accidents has the site registered? Is the view of the traffic coming from the side street into the thoroughfare obstructed?   Are there  many children who have to cross at that intersection when no guard is posted. Bring a schematic drawing of the site and photos if these will strengthen your case, See what your Police Department has to say? You might also question the Fire Marshall.
