I am about to travel and would like to take my MacBook with me. I have never traveled with a laptop before, and I need to know what I need to do to protect it and get it passed through security at the LAX airport. Thanks so much!

  1. it has to go in it's own bin but i don't understand y it wouldn't go through...

  2. Keep it in your bag until you get to the x-ray machine, then plop it in it's own bucket, separate from your normal stuff.  KEEP YOUR EYE ON IT AS YOU GO THROUGH THE METAL DETECTOR.  It's so easy to steal stuff at these checkpoints.  The x-ray machine doesn't damage electronics, so don't worry.  After the x-ray machine, a TSA employee might ask you to turn your laptop on, to ensure it isn't a bomb. Make sure the battery is fully charged to avoid any nasty situations.

  3. Correct answers above.  Just to answer your additional question, no, the X-ray doesn't damage it.

  4. Yep, what Jeremy said....I travel with a laptop and they just want you to take it out of whatever luggage it's in and put it in the little gray tote that goes through the X-ray by itself.  Just be sure and grab it as soon as it comes out of the X-ray.  You usually make it through faster than the stuff being screened, so you should be OK.  Plus there are all those security people there, so no one should try to steal it.  People have mixed up theirs before though, so just make sure the person in front or behind you doesn't have a Mac like yours and you should be all set!

  5. Just put it on the tray thinging and your off! Oh and dont use it when taking off and landing!!! Otherwise

                                                                   BOOM!!!

  6. just put it in your laptop bag or backpack

when you get to security you'll need to remove it from the bag and put it in a seperate bin from all your other stuff.

when you get to the other side of the metal detector it will be waiting for you on the conveyor belt.

put it back in your bag and your set,

  7. ***When you put your MacBook in the plastic tub, try to keep an eye on it until you pick it up again.  Never put it through the X-ray until you are ready to walk through the security yourself.  (Don't put it through X-ray while somebody else is going through the security.  Wait until it is your turn.)  Theft happens so easily, so keep your eye on it.

    &*&^*^&%&^$^$^$

As to your second question ~ no!  The x-ray will NOT harm it at all.  Mine goes through all the time and it's as good as it was the day I bought it!!

    Don't worry about it!!!!
