What do I need to do to get sound from my acer x1160 projector?

Sound? This projector has nothing to do with sound, meaning no audio connections at all. This means that the audio is to be a separate system. So either you connect your video connections to the porjector and audio connections to the stereo or surround receiver, or you connect everything to an A/V receiver then take the video output from the receiver and connect that to the projector.

Since x1160 doesn't have HDMI you can use S-video or composite.

I believe you can get a component to d-sub adapter, but not sure how much $. that would in theory offer the highest quality, but at 800X600 resolution, you may not notice.
