I"m 16 and plans on converting to Islam from Christianity. I know the rituals and traditions are very different from Christianity. Allah is God in Arabic so why do people say I am worshipping a different God? What do I do? I want to make myself happy. Do I cover my whole body up? I don't have any scarves. Where to go? What about holidays? My whole family is based off of Christianity. What to do? Where to begin? Do I read the Qu'ran first? How Do I dress? What do I say in prayer?

  1. You just have to proclaim the Shahadah:

ʾašhadu ʾan lā ilāha illā-llāh, wa ʾašhadu ʾanna muḥammadan rasūlu-llāh

    English rendering:

"I bear witness that there is no god except for God (Allah), and Muhammad is the messenger of God."'

You have to say it in Arabic, and then say it in English so that you understand what you are testifying.

If you have Muslim friends, they can help you get scarves, that shouldn't be a problem. You should go to your Masjid and get to know the Muslim community around you so you will have support from more Muslim friends. It will make you feel better. Don't worry about Sunni and Shia; when you accept Islam, you're becoming a Muslim.

  2. may Peace Mercy and Blessings of Allah(swt) be on all of you.

Sister 1st of all let me welcome you to the religion of truth and peace.and may you stay in faith for the rest of your life.(Ameen).

Sister to convert to Islam you have to proclaim shahada(witness) ''There is no God But Allah(swt) and Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) is a servant and messenger of Allah(swt)''.

The best way to start is to read Glorious Quran with understanding. If you do not understand Arabic them read the translation in teh language you understand the best .Also pelase buy any book of Salah(prayer)(there are plenty out in teh market).with teh translation in the language you understand the best. they are very helpfull and will teach you how to perform salah and what to read in it.

I dont know which part of the world you live in sister but i suggest that you visit any mosque near your place and i am sure they will help you with the material you need to learn about Islam as a new muslimah. Also you can visit any Islamic book shop in your area and try and find any books designed for the newly reverts( there are plenty out in teh market. or you can buy them online as well.Darussalam has a very good web site for Islamic books. also you can visit IDCI in Uk . they have good material available ,specially the small booklets explaining the dress of a muslim women and the rights of women in Islam(and many other topics) .If you can, order the Dawah Pack from IDCI website. It has all you need to know Initially about Islam and also About Prophet Jesus(may peace be upon him) and his Status in Islam as one of the mighties messengers .I am also attaching a link below to my blog where yo can watch two videos. These are teh public lectures by Dr Zakir naik. the topics are 1) Rights of women in Islam

    2) Is the Quran God's Word?

Please watch them and i am sure it will help you alot in knowing how the dress should belike for Muslimah and alot of knowledge about the rights Islam has given to the Muslim Women . Also the other video will prove scientifically that Quran is the Word of God 100%.

My only request to you is sister that if you want to learn Islam then learn it fro the Authentic sources and i.e Quran and the authentic hadith(tradition),Sunah(traditions of Prophet Muhammad). Please do not try and learn about Islam from the anti Islamic sources because there is alot of misinformation (in terms of misquotations from the Quran and hadith  and misinterpratation of Islamic Principles) out there .and if you follow that then you will only be biased .

If you need to know any thing specific or need any material on any topic specifically, please do not hesitate to e mail me and i will be happy to help.

May Peace Mercy and Blessings of Allah(swt) be on you sister.

  3. Hey thats awesome! That's a lot to explain through this so feel free to email me and I'd be more then happy to help you out, I converted from Christianity too :)

  4. Al hamdulilah my dear sister, you have found the right path!! Well first of all Allah means God. Hes the same God that  Christians believe in, so whoever told you that your worshiping a different God, then their wrong. I think that the first and most important thing to do is to read the Qur'an. You will find happiness and joy in reading the Qur'an and it'll lead you in the right direction. After you've read and understood the Qur'an, you know what Allah expects from you as a Muslim woman. Its completely up to you how you cover yourself. Some women wear what is called a abyee or sharia and cover their bodies. Others such as myself, wear my scarf and modest clothes.PLEASE my dear sister DO NOT where the scarf and the shortest and tightest shirt you have and dont wear super tight pants because that completely contradicks the meaning of wearing a scarf. Your clothes should be somewhat lose and NEVER revealing. Your shirts should fall lower than your butt and your pants should be long enough to cover your ankles. And where to find scarves, well i live in Troy, Michigan and there isnt many scarf stores around so i usually go to Dearborn, Michigan. Its about 15 minutes away from my house. Also, as most ppl know, most of Dearborns population is Arabic ppl so i find many scarf stores. Some names are Mecca, El Hoda, and Zahraa. These are all good stores to find scarfs. Ok so now that you dress modestly and appriopatly i think that you need to go to a mosque and seek a scholars( shaik) help. He/she will teach you how to pray and how to be a good Muslim. Ok now holidays, well as Muslims there are 2 major holidays that we celebrate first is Eid al Fatr this holiday is celebrated on the first day that Ramadan has ended. We celebrate it because we have all accomplished fasting for the whole holy month of Ramadan! The second is Eid al adiha, this is the biggest celebration, it is where the ppl making their pilgramige at Mecca make their 7 turns around the holy Kaaba. This holiday is also celebrated to remember the sacarfice that Prophet Abraham made for Allah. As you probably already know we do not celebrate christmas because we dont believe in christ and we dont celebrate easter. Also there is a night that I consider a holiday. This night is called The Night of Power. This is where we stay up all night read Dua'as and Qur'an and Praying to God. Inshallah you will be a very good Muslim just follow the path of Allah. By the way dont think bc you have already read the Qur'an you dont have to read it again. Always  read the Qur'an its the best book to read in my opinion.Oh and that also goes for Dua'a(suplications), read as much Dua'a as you can. About your family, make sure you tell them its very important. You'll need their support, but if by any chance you dont get support from them then DONT WORRY. Allah is ALWAYS ALWAYS with you. He will guide you to his path and show you right from wrong. My dear sister Allah is the all knowing and all mercifull and he guides those who seek guidence. As long as you have Allah (which is always) then you'll be fine. My dear sister you have lightend my day, because whenever anyone is seeking to become a follower of Islam it fills my heart with joy and i hope i was a help!! if you have any questions email me or respong. May Allah bless you. Good Luck!!

  5. Why would you want to become and islamic muslim woman.  If you hate Christianity that much, then drop religion altogether.

  6. The first thing you need to know is that Islam is a submission of the heart. Once you feel Islam in your heart all the other things come with time and fall into place.

I am a revert and came to Islam 4 years ago. At first i felt the same, there is so much to learn, how do i pray, how do i say it in arabic, how do i tell my family I'm not celebrating christmas anymore, how do I learn to wash for prayers, where do i buy clothes, do i have to cover my head......

The list of questions seemed endless. And my friend said to me one day "When do you think you will be ready?" I said "I have so much to learn first" they said "Well its better if you where to die tonight a muslim who knows nothing, who has not had the opertunity to pray even once. Than to die tonight with the intention on becoming a muslim when you know more because we are all still learning every day. There is no "oh i know it all now i am ready" moment. And i thought that is so true I have all the time in the world to learn after becoming a muslims. And thats exactly what i did. I took my Shahada and the Imam said to me "take your time. Read, learn, give yourself time to ajust Allah is all knowing and all merciful".

That was 4 years ago and it was the best decision i ever made, i have never looked back.

I learned to wash for pray, I learned to pray in Arabic, I learned how to pray, my family supported me, I bought my first scarf just from an ordinary high street shop as i do all my clothing, and every day am still learning new things about Islam, its never ending. And its never ending for us all.

Read the Quran and if you are sure Islam is for you then talk to your parents give them the respect and time they need to process all this new information too. If you have a local Mosque give them a call and explain your situation I am sure they will put you in touch with some girls your age to disguss and ask questions. Learn the 5 pillars and Insha Allah you will be saying your Shahada very soon.

There are many links and people on line to help you learn to pray and how to pray. Someone at mosque can help you also they have arabic classes for beginers etc. Take a small step each day and Masha Allah you will walking on the true path before you know it.

Peace to you and Insha Allah you find the answers you are looking for.

@Proud 2 be a muslim - Sorry sister but we do not have leaders like the Pope. We are all equal in Islam and we have Imams or scholars who are very knowledgable but not leaders and definitly not comparible to the Pope.

  7. ok, you pray five times a day.. fast ramadan which is next month from now. testify that theres no god but god and mhommad his last messneger and also say jesus was not son of god.

i dont recommened you cover up all now, since your a converter you have more important things to set them up first

first read al Quran in English then take it to the next level in arabic.

    WELCOME TO THE ISLAMIC NATION

    ITS CALLED MOHOMMAD'S NATION

ARE YOU PART OF THE WHOLE BODY IF A PART SUFFERS WE ALL SUFFER TOO

THE ISLAMIC NATION IS THE FIRST NATION WHO WILL BE JUDGED ON DAY OF JUDGMENT SO GET YOUR ANSWERS RIGHT FOR THAT DAY

    good luck!!!!

  8. You really mean it? You just can't be serious!!

  9. Allah is God but christians say its different cuz they worship Jesus, who we call prophet Isa.

U should first learn "shahadah" which is ure faith of Islam. If u find a fellow muslim or arab, maybe they can help u recite the following:

"Ash-hadu ana la ilaha ilallah. Wa-ash-hadu ana Muhammada rasulallah."

Translated as: "I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship but Allah & I bear witness the Muhammad is His Messenger."

Search in google search "salat" to find out how to pray in Islam.

There are 5 pillars to Islam which u must follow:

    1) shahadah--testimony of faith

    2) pray 5 times a day at the correct times

    3) pay zakat (charity)

    4) sawm (fasting during month of ramadan)

    5) making the pilgrimage to hajj (if u can afford it)

  10. well Islam is a very simple and easy religion

All you have to do is dress properly...that means that you have to wear hijab, wear long clothes to cover your legs and hands (the sleeve does not HAVE to be full)

Maybe you can go to some stores and find out if they have scarves or ask a muslim girl in ur school or a muslim friend (if u ahve one)

you cn start taking lessons or something to learn to read the Qur'an and you HAVE (its compulsory) to learn to pray five times a day

    i hope i helped

    EDIT: sunni and shias

people say (sunnis ) that shias are not muslims buit i dont believe that

i love all my sisters and brothers in islam (whether sunni or shia)

BTW i am a sunni ( ahmadi muslim)

  11. Reverting inshAllah amen.

You need a Quran and you should try and find some good muslim sisters beside you to help you with what you need.

If your going to the mosque you will need to know the dress code and times they pray at your local mosque and the location of were you have to go.

The only other thing you need is your tahweed, your oneness to the Lord All Mighty.

Here is your proof that you must be with Muhammed SAW not Ali R.a....

    23 – 53 – Division of Islam

But the people cleaved the religion into fragments and each group is content with the tenets which they have chosen

    Ibn-i Mace, Fiten: 17, No:3992 2/1322 Ebu Davud, Sunna: 1 No: 4596 2/608 Ahmed ibni Hanbel, Müsned No: 8404 3/229)

Avf ibn Malik narrated that the Prophet Muhammed(s) said

I swear by the one, which is holding my Soul in his hand, that my umma will be splitted in 73 groups. One will be in jannah and one will be in jahannam.

    They asked:

Ya Rasulallah! Which one will be in Jannah?

and he said: (Ahlu Sunna wal) jammah

You will be challenged and you will have some difficulty with the muslims but that is expected for anyone.

Sunni is the ways of Muhammed SAW and the required way, shia is the way of those who seperate which started long after Muhammed SAW died and long after the Islamic religion was perfected.  So its void.

  12. be a Muslim, and not divide your self into sects..

[2:130] Who would forsake the religion of Abraham, except one who fools his own soul? We have chosen him in this world, and in the Hereafter he will be with the righteous.

[2:131] When his Lord said to him, "Submit," he said, "I submit to the Lord of the universe."

[3:102] O you who believe, you shall observe GOD as He should be observed, and do not die except as Submitters.

    Believers are United

[3:103] You shall hold fast to the rope of GOD, all of you, and do not be divided. Recall GOD's blessings upon you - you used to be enemies and He reconciled your hearts. By His grace, you became brethren. You were at the brink of a pit of fire, and He saved you therefrom. GOD thus explains His revelations for you, that you may be guided.

[3:104] Let there be a community of you who invite to what is good, advocate righteousness, and forbid evil. These are the winners.

[3:105] Do not be like those who became divided and disputed, despite the clear proofs that were given to them. For these have incurred a terrible retribution.

[6:159] Those who divide themselves into sects do not belong with you. Their judgment rests with GOD, then He will inform them of everything they had done.

[21:92] Your congregation is but one congregation, and I alone am your Lord; you shall worship Me alone.

[21:93] However, they divided themselves into disputing religions. All of them will come back to us (for judgment).

[21:93] However, they divided themselves into disputing religions. All of them will come back to us (for judgment).

[23:53] But they tore themselves into disputing factions; each party happy with what they have.

[30:32] (Do not fall in idol worship,) like those who divide their religion into sects; each party rejoicing with what they have.

  13. You have to the say the kalma:: There is no God except Allah and Prophet Mohammad pbuh is his messenger.

You have to read Quran and hadith and whatever it is saying you have to accept and you have to do that. You cant deny any single thing.

You have to dress that your body should not be shown, it should not be tight and it should not be see throw.

You can show your body infornt of your husband.

You have to cover your body, face and hairs when you go out.

Sunni are true muslims and shia are not muslims. They believe partial Islam and they are not muslims but they call themselves muslims. Sects are haram in ISLAM. Muslims are not allowed to keep their such names but to difference between these kafir sects so we keep Sunni.

    Good luck!!!

  14. I am actually surprised for a 16 year old girl to want to convert...thats very interesting and I am really proud of you seriously.  Being a real muslim is not easy...I am muslim, I do wear a scarf but yet there are things that I do that are wrong..such as wearing too much make up or tight clothes.

THE first thing you should do is I am sure you must have done some research about Islam and heard about it some where...after that you should really find a Mosque, there you could meet up with a sheikh or a religious leader that is there and they will talk to you about it, you can start attending their lectures and know more about it before really committing to it.  In order to be a Muslim, you should definately accept them purely from your heart.  If your ganna read the Quran now, ur not ganna understand it well.  Dressing, this is how I dress I cover my head, there are 2 ways either with a scarf or a mandeel just two different ways of wearing it.  my shirts are tight but they shouldn't be I have been trying to change so Iam getting my new shirts alittle wider and it should cover your butt lol.  I wear jeans, those that are more strict wear long skirts or a sharei dress which covers your whole body.

U are not worshipping a different God, you are just believing in one God.

Holidays, there are two major holidays..one is Ramadan; the name of this category.  Ramadan is a month were we fast, and the holiday Ramadan is the day we break out fast, the holiday usually lasts for days and what happens then..is there is a special prayer for it and we typically visit our family membes and take sweets etc.  The 2nd holiday comes during the Hajj pilgrimage.  and the other holidays are like the birth of Nabi (prophet) Mohamad (saws) etc.

In prayer you say the Fatiha, which is the first verse in the quran and this other one.  A sheikh will be able to guide you through the prayer.

    Difference between Shia and Sunni...

In Shai we believe that Imam Ali was the one chosen by Nabi Mohamad (saws).  Sunnis believed that it was supposed to be umar or something.  Also Shias tend to love the family of Nabi Mohamad, sunni's had a battle with them and killed most of them like Imam Hussien (which is still being remembered every year, its called Ashora...We remember it in 10 days by going to the mosque and hearing the trajic story and then on the 10th day is the biggest one were Imam Hussien was slaughtered in the head.

I wish you best of luck and if you need anything don't hesitate to email me, Iam 20 so young like you...I'll be able to probably help you with whatever you need.  :)

  15. you need to be submissive and simple. if youre already a christian ill assume you have both traits already.

  16. well first off go to the Mosque. talk to the Shiek [the leader like a pope] and then aboiut the Scarves, got o the arab stores ro islamic and buy them. dont be ashamed and as soon as you becaome a muslim you will feel great.

fist off before talkign about the holdidays where will you live?

if you have a friend who is a muslim then go over to her house when it is christman or when your family is celebrating othwer holdidays.

    inshallah thsi helped you

    and yai agree with Raw

  17. Congratulations our new sister in Islam welcome to the biggest family in the world :) Well you definitely should read the Quran if you haven't done so already. You can't do everything at once. It's one step at a time. You have to crawl before you walk. So if you believe that there is only one deity worthy of worship and you associate no partners with him no son, no mother, no father, no step brother, then you believe in Allah. Allah the Arabic word for God can not be made plural like the English word God can so it only refers to the Creator the Almighty, the Sustain er . Next step is to learn your prayers God willing and here is a link to help you do that http://english.islamway.com/sindex.php?s... Once you establish your prayers your faith (iman) will grow inshaAllah and you will learn more and more. But don't get anxious you can't do it all at once so take it one step at a time. If you have any questions or need someone to talk to I'm here for you as are our many other brothers and sisters in Islam. May Allah's peace and blessings be upon you and may He continue to guide you and all muslims. Ameen.

  18. allhamdulilah, that is excellent sister.

Just follow the QURAN, read the translation.

Its simple, just follow the quran and hadith, you cant go wrong. listen to islam channel or peacetv. if you have SKY, then the numbers are 813 for islam channel and 820 i think for peacetv. listen to lectures of the pious islamic scholars in english and that will expland your knowledge inshallah.

may Allah bless u, if you need me please message me, i will be happy to help :)

Asalam alaikum ( May peace and blessings be with  you)

  19. I converted from christianity too when I was 18. Lets see... you're not worshipping a "different god". Allah is just the name for the the One True Universal God- the same God who sent all the prophets from Adam to Jesus. People who say otherwise just don't understand! You should cover everything except your hands and face; if you don't have a scarf, you can get one of those hawiian type sarongs (they work really well as they're so long) or any other type of fabric and perhaps make one; the fabric store has lots of materials on hand- if you can't sew, get some and have a tailor just seam the edges so they don't get frayed when you wash them. Broomstick skirts work well with blouses or mens plain colored dress shirts. Lots of stuff online you can order too! Search "Womens Islamic Clothing" and you're sure to find a lot of stuff. Holidays; we have two main ones: one comes right after Ramadan (which will start enshALlah some time around september 1rst this year- but check in your local area to be sure- it varies according to the moon sighting) and the second a few months after that.

Your family may have a hard time at first (mine sure did!) but perservere and know that your main aim is to please Allah. Read the prophet Mohammeds biography; he had a lot of challenges himself!

You can read a translation of quran. There are a lot available. Prayers should be in arabic; you can get a transliteration of them online (something like cybersalat.com) and read from a paper till you know them. I highly reccomend going to a mosque in your area for more help and support at this time.

Also try islamicity.com, islamonline.com. Hope everything works out great enshAllah (God willing!)

  20. You had better find out what it's all about before you switch to it.  Reading the Qu'ran would be a step in the right direction.  Ask yourself this:  if I don't know what it is all about, why do I want to do it?
