What do I need to drive into and back from Mexico?

i'm driving from California to Mexico this weekend for Memorial weekend. I know that affective June 1st is a new law that requires you to have a passport. But for now, Do i need a birth certificate of SS card in addition to my drivers license??

You need a photo I.D. and a proof of citizenship...EITHER a passport OR a birth certificate.  See site below.  The new law will go into effect after June 1, 2009, not this year, for  passports to be needed for all modes of travel to and from Mexico.

Drive, just your ID.

Yes starting June 1, 2009 you will need a passport to drive into mexico, thank you captain obvious. But until then all you need is your ID.

You have to get Mexico Ins. because if you get in wreck your usa ins is not any good there.
