Question:

What do I need to fix my clutch on my '90 Honda Prelude?

Over time the clutch gradually faded and lost pressure and got harder to shift into gear. Now the the clutch sticks really close to the floor. I can still start the car but can't put it into gear. What parts do I need to get replaced? I was looking on ebay and people have clutch parts for pretty cheap but I don't know exactly what I need.

  1. Your clutch is either out of adjustment or the clutch master cylinder is low on fluid do to a leak.

Check the fluid level for the clutch and I bet it is low, also look for the leak at both ends. This is usually an easy fix.

Your clutch itself is ***NOT*** worn out!

    When they wear they slip.

When they won't fully disengage the transmission from the engine (your scenario) it is a problem externally with the linkage (in your case a fluid linkage).

    Good Luck!

  2. go to autozone.com and put your car in it then look up the price for a clutch kit, it should have everything you need other than no-how--

  3. RR, in all honesty and sincerity; if you don't know what you need, and don't know where to find out, you are in no way ready to do a clutch job yourself.  It's very easy to s***w something up and do hundreds or thousands of dollars in damage beyond the cost of a mechanic doing it.

If you are friendly with a mechanic, maybe he will give you a parts list to get yourself, if you pay him for the labor, that will save you a few bucks & the job will be done right.  This isn't one to s***w around with.

  4. sounds like you need a new slave cylinder.
