What do I need to go from wired internet to wireless?

i have regular internet that comes out of the wall and connects to a modem and then to my desktop, but i want wireless internet for my ps3 and laptop. I know i need a router but is it as simple as just plugging in cords?

Pretty much that easy. You need a wireless adapter for the laptop unless it has one. The router. Does the PS3 have wireless or does it need an adapter?

first of all make sure that you have a wireless router i recommend a linksys one but any should work next make sure your computer has a wireless card and then to connect your ps3 you can (A) get a ethernet or what ever cable your ps3 uses and connect to your pc or laptop or you can get a wireless receiver to connect to your wireless router also you can always go to best buy or circuit city and they can always help you

You will need a router and a wireless access point.  You can purchase a wireless router which is a router and wireless access point integrated into one discrete unit if you wish.

One unit should be connected to the router via a wired connection to do all the configurations.  You should never configure, change configuration, upgrade firmware, or do other router changes with a wireless link to the router.

When you configure wireless you must invoke all the wireless security you can invoke.  Hackers will crash in otherwise.  Security configuration takes a little while to do and you must document what you did for future reference but it is well worth doing.

I recommend you buy an apple airport extreme. That is really the BEST on the market. No problems, ever. Just plug it in, and off you go. You will possibly need to input some settings with the airport utility, but it's dead easy. That is the best way to go if you're looking for simplicity, and it will work great with Mac, PC, and PSP.
