What do I need to have to Enter into a forgien coiuntry, like Rome Italy?

I know you need a passport for sure.  

I don't know about shot records or other paperwork though.

depends where you are going and where from, if you are Italian you can travel to any shengen country without borders (austria, germany, france, and others) but if you have a citezenship card or passport bring it in case you are stopped. otherwise you can search the internet to find which countries require travel visas as well as a passport to enter. but you will for sure need a passport.

if you're american you can enter Italy just with your passport, you don't need a Visa.

Definitely need a passport... if you're a US citizen - that should be all.
