  1. I'm not sure what exactly you need, but I would recommend a lot of studying for the test.

Here's a good site to help get you prepared:

    http://www.exams4pilots.org/

It's a practice exam that you can take online, and has 925 of the questions that can be on your written.  Be sure to switch the type of test, as it defaults to private pilot airplane.

    Good luck.

  2. just knowledge. no endorcements required for faa written tests.

  3. For All Instructor writtens, no endorsement. necessary, all you "need" is, make an appointment with your local LaserGrade Computer Testing 1-800-211-2753 or Computer Assisted Testing Service (CATS) 1-800-947-4228 show them your ID, pay the fee, take the test.

an endorsement is not required unless you fail it, for a retest you must have an endorsement.

You do not need a endorsement for Fundamentals of Instructing to take the written but you are required to have logged an endorsement  to take the "check ride"

    61.183 states: in part...

(d). Receive a logbook endorsement from an authorized instructor on the fundamentals of instructing listed in 61.185 of this part appropriate to the required knowledge test.

ATP  written does not require an  endorsement..... otherwise...

§ 61.35   Knowledge test: Prerequisites and passing grades

    (a) An applicant for a knowledge test must have:

    (1) Received an endorsement, IF REQUIRED BY THIS PART from an authorized instructor certifying that the applicant accomplished the appropriate ground-training or a home-study course required by this part for the certificate or rating sought and is prepared for the knowledge test;

You have the option of taking a "home study ' course, you get the endorsement by completing the course, taking the practice exam and contacting  the course provider (Gleim, Jeppsen, ASA, King, etc. to receive the endorsement to take the test.

or get a Ground or CFI to review and give the following endorsement:

Review of a home study curriculum: section 61.35(a)(1). I certify I have reviewed the home study curriculum of (First name, MI, Last name). I have determined he/she is prepared for the (name the knowledge test).

Or you could go to one of the weekend "cram" courses, at the end of the weekend get the endorsement. (Many of these will provide the ability to test upon completion of the 2 days)

You could go to a ground school course, upon completion, the Instructor (A ground Instructor or a CFI) will provide the endorsement.

  4. I'm thinking you'll need to get an instructor signoff. Otherwise, the money and time to take it is what you'll need.
