  1. First of all, we NEVER refer to university as 'school' here. It's university or college. It's a whole different mindset to the schools you go to until you're 18 or so. You're no longer spoonfed.

Living here is expensive right now. Just so you know. Petrol is currently €1.32 per litre. Compare that to what you pay in gallons, and get used to the idea of using public transport.

We have these things called Bank Holidays, they're long weekends, and marked in the calendars. We also have Christmas, which is one the finer forms of social torture in Ireland. (I personally HATE Christmas.) It is an enforced family holiday, and unless you have a special invitation, you cannot go calling on anyone. The entire country breathes a collective sigh of relief when it's over ....

Most of the bigger tourist places close down during the winter months, but you'll find out what's open if you visit one of the Bord Failte offices, or try the website.

If you've never been to Ireland before, don't make any plans to live here on a permanent basis just yet. While it's lovely and all the rest, it is a different place, and honey, Disneyland it AIN'T.  You might find the difference in culture something of a shock. See how you like it first before committing yourself.

  2. Above answer included it all.

Its hard to get jobs at the moment cause of this stupid economic recession so dont set your heart on getting something that you reallly like unless you have v.good qualifications.

The minimum wage is currently €7.79 p/hour.

Get used to taking buses/luas/dart. Not only is petrol expensive, its expensive to park and the traffic is always really bad.

    Taxis are v.expensive aswel.

If you are going to be looking for accommodation, i suggest that you rent a room in a flat or share accommodation with someone because it will work out much cheaper.

You could end up paying €700-€1000 a month for staying somewhere.

If you do decide to live here then you might want to consider the 'affordable housing scheme'

Life in college is meant to be great and irish people are v.welcoming and  great fun.
