What do I need to know for Peru?

I'm going to Peru for a month. I'll be in Huancayo from July 19th - August 8th, and then Cuzco from August 9th - 15th. Yo hablo solo un pocito Espanol/Castellano, perro yo tengo un amigo, el hablo espanol muy bien. El veniendo con migo. What do I need to take? Special emphasis on bug reppellant? Is internet readily available in Hostels? What activities will be going on that I can't miss? What's the very best insider advice you can give a first time traveler to Peru?

I don't think you'll have much need for bug repellent unless you're going into the jungle...i've never been to huancayo but i think that's in the mountains so i doubt there's any bugs. definitely no need to worry about bugs in cusco. be more worried about altitude sickness...you might want to look into this and decide how best to prepare.

i've never been to huancayo, but in cusco there's pretty much an internet cafe on every corner. best insider advice: find a local market and drink chicha de jora. this is sometimes difficult to find. ask people where you can get it.
