What do I need to know to start out?

I am just starting out running. I am 29 years old 197 lbs and 5'9". I have several training plan ideas from Coolrunning.com and Runners World. What else do I need to know before setting out?

  1. Start out slow, meaning ad walking into your running, I was 29 when i started out and i would run 1/2 mile then walk a 1/2 mile, then run again, walk again, and so forth.  every week i would run more and walk a little less, before you know it you will run a few miles w/o needing to walk.  by doing this you will help prevent injuries.
