I want to start a store on-line selling ammo only. Are there any permits or licenses that I need to be legal? I live in Arkansas and would like to sell on-line only. Thanks for your advice, answers and comments!

  1. From the ATF web site......

A4) What kinds of ammunition are covered by the Gun Control Act of 1968?

Ammunition includes cartridge cases, primers, bullets or propellant powder designed for use in any firearm other than an antique firearm.

Items NOT covered include blank ammunition, tear gas ammunition, pellets and nonmetallic shotgun hulls without primers.

Generally, no records are required for ammunition transactions. However, information about the disposition of armor piercing ammunition is required to be entered into a record by importers, manufacturers, and collectors.

A license is not required for dealers in ammunition only.

  2. Check first with the state agency that regulates firearms such as ATF. In Oklahoma we have the OSBI. they can tell you what you need to sell in a storefront in Arkansas and they should be able to direct you to the proper federal agency that regulates on-line sales.

  3. To sell ammunition and/or firearms you need a Federal Firearms License (FFL).  Since Lee Harvey Oswald shot Kennedy with a rifle he purchased and had delivered through the mail, it has been against the law.  Shipping can now only occur if the shipper and receiver are both licensed FFL dealers.  To accomplish selling online, you will need FFL dealers (maybe you in the near future) to do the shipping for you.
