I'm 17 yrs. old and live in Illinois. I lost my birth certificate, my social security card (well actually they mysteriously disappeared from somewhere I kept them.....) I don't have a driver's license, or passport. The thing is that I'd been planning on getting all of these things, but I don't know which one to obtain first, next, etc. and the alternative things I may use to get them. What should I do? Will I need my parents to go with me since I'm underage? To get my birth certificate can I just take a school I.D. with a picture and my name on it?

  1. 1  Go to your local (usually county) where-you-were-born Health Department.  You should be able to get another copy of your birth certificate from there.  It may cost $1-$2, so take a little bit of money.

THEN go to your local (usually county) where-you-are-currently-living Social Security office.

  2. just click on the links and follow the instructions

    birth certificate

    http://www.idph.state.il.us/vitalrecords...

    social security card

    http://ssa-custhelp.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/ssa....

once you get new copies of your birth certificate and social security card then you can get your state ID.
