I just bought a Griffin Auxiliary Audio Cable.. but it doesnt work. Maybe I'm not using it correctly.. but I don't see how I couldnt be. I plug one end into the headphone jack of my stereo and the other end into the headphone jack of my iPod. But I don't know what else to do from there because nothing happens. Please help, either let me know how to use the audio cable I have, or what I really need to get. Thanks :)

  1. You need a Y cable - a 1/8" stereo plug at one end and two RCA phono plugs at the other end.  The stereo plug goes into the ipod headphone jack and the two phono plugs plug into your left and right stereo inputs.  Sound will be great, you can get it for about $8.00.

  2. you  may need to put your stereo on AUX then it may work

  3. The iPod is outputting sound from the headphone socket but the other end would need to go into an input socket. If you're just putting it in the stereo's headphone socket then thats going from one output into another output which isn't going to work. Your stereo needs an input, probablly labelled line in or auxilary input. Lots of portable and cheaper all in one stereos have such a 3.5mm input but if you've got a proper hi-fi separates system you may need a different cable, with a 3.5mm jack plug on one end and twin phono plugs on the other...

  4. your home stereo needs to have a phono input. This input has two holes, one colour coded red and one white. It may also be called the AUX input.

If it does have such an input, then all you need to do is purchase a MINI Jack to PHONO lead. The jack goes into your ipod just like a pair of headphones would, and the other end goes into the AUX input on your home stereo.

Now you just need to select AUX mode on your stereo and its done.

You can use anything on your stereo that says it is an input. So if you plug the phono lead into an input that says CD, or Minidisc then you simply switch to that mode on your stereo to hear your ipod.

If you have no inputs, then I suggest you get a speaker dock for your ipod.
