  1. I wouldnt wear jeans... unless you are just doing western riding or something... they are to hard to put leg on and you will end up with a major rash on your claves!! coz its your first lesson i wouldnt go buy anything.. but just wear a t shirt, tighter is better coz the instructor can properly see wat you are doing.. and just a pair of tights or leggings.. something very flexible! to make it as easy as possible for you!

  2. Untill you get the dress code for an ENGLISH barn:

If you are younger a nice non-baggy shirt that is slightly fitted should work but if your in your teens or older I would wear a plain polo (colors or large stripes are fine)

Fitted jeans will work but I would invest in a pair of jodphurs. You can get them used or new. Tuff Rider are my favorite and they have nice ones that run fairly cheap. You will probably want them with a knee patch (as opposed to full seat)

A shoe with a heal is a MUST (no tennis shoes) . You can get paddock boots fairly cheap.Chaps are also a good investment but are optional.

ATMS/SEI approved helmet is also a MUST. You can call ahead and see if the barn has helmets you can borrow but I would get my own ASAP. Troxel sells nice hemelts that are fairly cheap (and they come in pretty colors!). Bike helmets are NOT acceptable. They do not protect your head properly.

You will need a hair band to pull hair back

    **Optional**

    Gloves

Hairnet (to put hair in helmet)

Carrots/Apple. Ask permission before feeding any horse!! There is nothing more annoying (for me at least) than to have people feeding my horse without asking me.

As cool as it may seem don't bring crops or spurs to your lesson. If a horse needs one then a good barn will supply them.

As for western I have no idea but would assume it would consist of fitted jeans, boots (with a heal) and a nice shirt. A helmet is also a great idea even if you are the only one at the barn wearing one. Have fun!

  3. I'm going to assume that you mean horseback riding lessons. Since it is your first lesson, there is no need to go out and buy riding equipment. You should wear jeans that are slightly tight in the leg, whatever shirt you would be comfertable with, sturdy shoes/boots that are hard in the heel but not high heeled shoes, and a helmet which you can probably borrow from the stable that you are riding at but you should call ahead to confirm. Congrats on starting riding I really hope you enjoy yourself.

  4. A good helmet

    Riding pants or jeans

A good t-shirt or long sleeve shirt

Chaps if you want, you don't need them but if you have them...

    Good riding boots

Good luck on your first lesson!

  5. I'm assuming horseback riding lessons. Boots and a certified helmet if the place you are taking lessons don't offer them. An older but not super baggy tee-shirt so the instructor can see your form, jeans are fine the first couple of lessons but I find them to be terrible uncomfy and baggy so if you are taking english lessons then you could see if you could buy a pair of old jodhpurs. Your hair should also be back in a low pony tail and no dangly jewelry.

  6. English or Western???

A helmet, hard soled shoes with a heel, long sleeves and pants that aren't baggy!

(English)Once you get into the lessons you could buy a pair of paddock or tall boots and breeches/jodhpurs...

(Western) You could get some Chaps eventually...

Don't wear makeup its not worth it and don't wear ear rings or necklaces you don't want them to get in the way or lose them!!

  7. for your first leson- jeans, tshirt, boots, bike helmet

1 year from now- breeches, half chaps, paddock boots, hairnet, riding helmet

    (english)

1 year from now- chaps, ect

    (western)

  8. Jeans or tights. Some boots with a good heel (not high heels, I've seen someone ride like that... funny) or just some cheap gumboots, not joggers/running shoes, they're not good for horse riding (but you can wear them), flat soled runners are better than the grippy, chunky ones (hey I ride in little silly slip on shoes... well I'm not supposed to but it still works... but that's only because I work). A sleeved (not long sleeved, just not a singlet), collared shirt (easy to get sunburnt in a singlet, but hey you can still wear one if you want). Sunscreen and other appropriate weather clothing. They should supply helmets (if they don't well then they're not the best riding school. I don't think I've ever heard of a riding school that doesn't supply helmets).
