Question:

What do I need when wiring an amp?

I need to wire a 4-channel amp to 4 speakers in my 1998 Jetta. What all do I need? The amp will be producing 80w x 4 channels. I would like it to be as cheap as possible so the best of the best is not necessary. Everywhere I go they tell me I need to spend over $100 for the wiring and cables, yet one person told me that I can get this kit for only $25. http://www.knukonceptz.com/productDetail.cfm?prodID=KOL-AK8 will that kit have everything I need in order to run my amp to 4 of my speakers and the head unit and battery? If not what else do I need to go along with that? Thank you!

  1. You can get an amp wiring kit at walmart pretty cheap.

80 watts is not much, you can use 8 gauge wire for power and ground, 12 gauge speaker wire, and 12 or 16 gauge wire for the blue instant on, then RCA cables, all readily available at walmart or kmart or radio shack.

  2. Depends where you mount the amp. power supply wires need to be heavy Ga. (gauge) for a long run from battery not fuse box but you need an inline fuse on positive wire. The groung wire can attach to a good grounding place in the trunk, or run both from battery!

Crutchfield.com has kits available for specific makes, models at a reasonable price! check them out. They even have detailed instructions and 24hr tech. support.
