  1. I would bring everything. I hate being caught off guard. After 5 dresses, anything that can have multi function.

  2. There are usually 2 "formal" nights on 7-day cruises.  You will see everything from the basic little black dress to ball gowns and prom type evening wear.  The key is to pack something that you are comfortable in and will pack well.  The slinky black dresses dressed up with a few rhinestones that are in the stores now for Christmas parties are great options.  Try to limit shoes...there is not alot of closet space in the cabin.

For other nights in the dining room, capris, skirts, slacks or even jeans are OK.  You can skip the dining room and eat at the buffet where you can wear shorts if you prefer.

During the day, shorts, tees, and tanks are OK but be sure to have a swimsuit cover-up to visit any of the eateries.

Consider taking an extra swimsuit.  They never dry when hanging up in the bathroom and who likes to put on a wet swimsuit?

Pack everything you need/want like meds, 1 change of clothes and your valuables in your carry-on bag.  It can take up to midnight to get your luggage delivered to your room.

Take along a power strip..there is usually only one outlet in the cabin.  Also, one of those XXL ziploc bags (they are huge) for dirty clothes.  Night light or alarm clock w/light.  The rooms are wicked dark and some shore excursions have an early start time.

Spending depends on if you drink alcohol and gamble...but here is a list of general costs for items not included in your cruise price...

    - tips.  $10 per day per person.

    - bar drinks.  $4-12 each plus 15% gratutity.

    - soda.  $1.75 per can or $40 for an unlimited by the glass card.

    - photos. $20-25 per sheet.

    - bingo. $5-10 per card.

    - spa services. $50-200 per service.

    - shore excursions. $50-200 per excursion.

    - in port...taxis and shopping... take plenty of $1, 5 and 10 in US dollars.  Avoid large bills.

    - parking at port or taxi to port

Alot of info is cruise line/itinerary specific...even finding out the name of the ship from your Grandmother would give you leads...

  3. Smallest you'll get by with is a foot locker.  Buy shoebags, and in case your grandmother doesn't use laundry services aboard, line the bottom of the locker with a couple 13gal kitchen trash liners for home-bound laundry.  Buy a jewelry travel organizer.

    1)  Four dressy separates and two pair of dressy sandals for dinners, with jewelry.  One dressy watch.

    2)  One casual watch, eight interchangeable casual/shopping separates, three pair of comfortable casual shoes, costume jewelry.  Wear nothing valuable for outings.

    3)  Depending on your sleeping preferences, however many pieces of sleepwear you would normally use in eight days, minus two.

    4)  Big-brimmed hat, straw hat, baseball cap.  Sunglasses.  Two or three bathing suits and coverups.  Poolside thongs.  Every cosmetic and hygienic you use daily.  Any hair accessory you might need for ponytails or braids.  Sunscreen, body lotion, razor.

    5)  Do your manicure/pedicure before you leave.  Buy and use a secure traveling documents holder.  See travelsmith.com or magellans.com.

    6)  $400.

  4. Each cruise ship has 2 nights that all the passengers need to wear formal attire for the evening. I would bring cocktail dresses, frilly, glittery ball gowns, the whole she-bang.

As for how much $ you'll need to bring - LOADS!

    Not just $100.

$10 is expected to be given as a tip per person per day to the maid, waitress, room service, etc.

Plus, $5 per day per person for fuel.

Extra money is needed for the alcoholic drinks AND for the normal sodas you order at the resturants.

I would bring close to $1,000 because of the tips, drinks, souveniers, & all of the excursions that will occur when you're exploring the islands.

    The excursions vary from $25-$200!

Just to go to a beach alone is $25 per person!

  5. Julie T hit it on the head. I WAY over packed on my trip. You won't wear near as much as you think you will. I tucked a smaller suitcase in a larger one to carry stuff home (you know how your suitcase grows on vacation?) Well the idea was brilliant except when getting off the boat and you carry your own bags, I now had 3 large bags instead of 2. One large suitcase and a duffel to carry home souvenirs.

  6. I doubt that you will have space for more than one medium bag in a cabin Layer and multi-task your clothes - use a shirt and a jacket over sleeveless dress for evening.   Bring minimal makeup toilettires - bring sample sizes if you have them and toss when used up. Shoes are a pain - bulky  youre need one comfortable pair for shore excusions a casual and a smart pair for on board.  Take all your clothes in a coordinating 1 or 2 colours so you can mix and match.  For more packing tips check out http://HowToTravelTips.info

  7. first ask you grandma what cruise line you are going on so you can look it up, they will tell you what things they will be doing once you are on land.but i would take some of these things with you if you can - most important a passport , id, of some type  than for other things these- hat, suntan lotion. sunglasses, swim suits a few of them . sneakers. flip-flops. and some type of dress shoes. than you can do sundress. for the dinning room  dress pants and skirts if you like. a few pretty tops. make sure you have a extra tote bag for your swimwear and gifts. you do not need a really fancy dress for the dinning rooms just not jeans or shorts that is in the evening time . also don't forget a camera and film
