Some internists work in hospitals all the time; they are more commonly known as hospitalists.  Others work in a regular medical office, and may subspecialize in a specific organ system, such as cardiology or nephrology.

Yes, they diagnose and treat patients.  They are doctors!

Yearly income varies, but is generally considered good.  They can make anywhere from $160K to $400K depending on subspecialty and location.
