  1. i don't know any Irish who call their mother ,mum. I heard of ma, or mam, or even mammy. father is da, dad or daddy....

or aul fella or me aul wan,.

  2. it's normally posh ppl who call there parents mammy and daddy, Ma and Da is normal for the commoners tho

  3. I'm Irish I call my parents by their first names.

Common Dublin people say Ma and da or me aul fella.

Posh ones say mum and daddy.

Some people say mammy and daddy.

I think most Irish say mam/mom and dad though.

My friend says mum but her mother was raised in England.

  4. People who say Mum or Dad are often regarded as copying the way the English do it - just like slang words are copied (but that goes the other way too sometimes - I've heard Mammy and Daddy used in England). I've also heard people copying the American "Mom".

Mammy and Daddy are the most usual in Ireland (and Scotland too I believe).

  5. Usually Mum and Dad or Mammy and Daddy.

Edit: Actually christine, I know plenty of people who are Irish and used to, or still do, call their parents Mum and Dad. And I'm Irish, not Enlgish, or English as I think you mean.

  6. ma and the auld lad or da

  7. Usually mum and dad.  It kind of depends where you're from and how old you are.  Most of the people I know say mum and dad though.

  8. Mam and Dad, or Ma and Da.

Irish people never call their mother mum, thats the way the Enlgish say it.
