What do Mother's Helpers make?

Mother's helpers are like babysitters, but the mother is at the house. I am wonderin what thier wage would be.

  1. It depends on the responsibilities. If you are watching and interacting with the children while the mother is there, but she is not helping you then it would be the same as if you were alone. I would say about $7-$10 an hour.

    Federal minimum wage is at $7.25 now. That should be your base price, and add onto that based on experience, knowledge, training, etc.

    I personally think it is unethical to pay a person below federal min wage, not to mention illegal, but some parents think it is ok because they do not want to spend the money. What I used to tell parents was that other people know what they are worth(if they wanted to pay less based on someone elses offer) and so do I.


  2. You mean like your neighbor's 12 year old daughter who is helping to watch the kids so you can get laundry done. I would think 2 dollars an hour would be good.

  3. I would pay one the same as a babysitter or if they are full time same as a nanny.

  4. Most of the time they are not old enough to get a "real job". A few dollars an hour would be fair. I never made minimum wage when I was babysitting.
