What do Northerners make of quintessentially Southern things like Only Fools & Horses and Chas & Dave?

Do they like them, or do they prefer to stick to their own?

Perhaps Auf Wiedersehn Pet and um... the Northern equivalent of Chas and Dave. Perhaps the Chuckle Brothers.

  1. I'm from the north, but I don't see Only fools as southern and Auf Wiedersehn pet as northern, I just see them as British.

(Perhaps the northern equivalent to Chas and Dave would be Vic and Bob, since both of them sung and wrote the songs on Vic Reeves' album.  I know this only because my sister went through a phase of being in love with Vic Reeves and played that bloody CD everyday from 1998 to 2001)

I do like a lot of 'northern' comedies like League of Gentlemen, The Royal Family, Shameless and Cattrick, however, I like a lot of 'southern' ones too.

I don't think the north/south divide applies as much when it comes to things like entertainment.

Food however is a different matter, go into a chippy or a pizza shop in our town and ask for a pattie or a parmo and you're gonna walk away with a smile and your tea in your hand, ask for them in anywhere further down than york and you are gonna get blank stares.  (I wanted a pattie when I went to Southampton and was devasted to find out that they are a northern thing.)

  2. Delboy is a god. Chas and dave are twats. Not cos they are from the south, just cos they are tossers.

  3. North or South.I don't really care.

They are all out-dated bits of twaddle that are best forgotten.

I am a Northerner and I do have a sense of humour in case you were wondering.

  4. I'm from the north, but I don't think of Only Fools and Horses as a 'southern thing'. It's more of a universally British thing, which just happens to be set in London.

As for Chas and Dave, well, yeah, that's definitely one of yours! You very rarely hear them up north. There are a few native comedy singers and groups, but to be honest with you they're not my thing.

I actually think the whole north/south divide is a bit overblown anyway. While the UK definitely has regional personality differences, they're more randomly spread than just a north/south division. From my experience there's as much difference between geordies and scousers or bristolians and cockneys as there is between northerners and a southerners.

  5. how can you compair chas and dave to the chuckle brothers anyway , ones on tv one is a duet singers . to me it realy depends on the person not on the area they stay in

  6. coming from rotherham i have to defend the chuckle brothers. they show humour on several levels in their shows. and to be fair Cockney or mockney as far as chas and dave go.
