  1. Snakes are uniformly carnivores. They eat other animals. What any specific snake will eat depends on their size, their habitat, and on the prey species available to them.

For example, garter snakes and ribbon snakes are smallish snakes that are usually found near water. They eat frogs, toads, lizards, small rodents (baby mice), fish, tadpoles, water bugs, worms, and sometimes smaller snakes.

Kingsnakes and their cousins, the milksnakes, also eat rodents, however they are best known for eating other snakes. They also hunt at night, and are known to seek out and eat sleeping lizards.

Snakes are generally divided into two main groups, venomous and non-venomous.

Venomous snakes are the latest development in snake evolution. They kill their prey by injecting it with venom from their fangs (hollow teeth) then they wait for it to die and they eat it.

Some venomous snakes, known as vipers, have large folding fangs in the front of their mouths. These fangs fold in when the snake's mouth is closed, then fold out when the snake strikes, or bites. Vipers, which include rattlesnakes, copperheads, death adders, and other pit vipers, primarily eat warm blooded animals, like mice, rats, rabbits, and sometimes birds.

Other venomous snakes, known as elapids, have smaller, fixed (non-folding) fangs farther back in their mouths, generally under their eyes. Their venom is very different from a viper's venom, in that most viper venom attacks the blood, while elapid venom attacks the nervous system.  Elapids, which include cobras, coral snakes, taipans, kraits, and sea snakes, eat primarily cold blooded animals, like other snakes, lizards, and, in the case of sea snakes, fish.

Non-venomous snakes, by far the more common snakes kept as pets, are further divided into the boids (boas and pythons) and the colubrids (corn snakes, king snakes, garter snakes, and similar species). These snakes kill their prey by striking out and biting the prey, then wrapping around it and squeezing it to death.

What each snake eats again depends on how big they are and where they live. Most commonly kept pet snakes will eat rodents like mice, rats, and rabbits. Some snakes, like burmese and reticulated pythons, can grow big enough to eat goats, pigs, or even deer.

    Hope this answers your question!!

  5. pretty much any thing that can fit in its mouth. crickets r good for tiny snakes, then pinkies, mice, rats, gerbils.... so on.. u can even feed it frogs if your snake will try to eat it.

  6. NEVER feed a snake a live mouse it can hurt the snake. dead frozen food that has been defrosted is best. if the snake is small you start off with pinkies which are new born baby mice then fluffs then small , medium, large mice. if it's a first snake i would presume its either a corn snake or royal python my advice is never feed a snake then handle it once fed leave for at least 2 days hope this helps

  7. When they get big they can eat live mice.

  8. Hello; that really depends on the kind of snake in question. :)

Most common species in the pet trade like Ball pythons, Corn snakes, King snakes, and small to medium sized boas and pythons in general eat mice or rats, depending on the size of the snake. Large snakes like adult Burmese pythons generally take rabbits, some species like Garter snakes need a varied diet of fish and invertebrates unless you can manage to get them to take rodents, some species like Ringneck snakes prefer worms, other reptiles, and amphibians, and there are some small species like Rough Green snakes that exclusively eat insects.

I hope this helps, and if you have any further questions at all on the subject; please feel free to message me and I will be more than happy to assist you. :)

    Good luck!
