  1. In Illinois, she would be labeled a Minor in need of authoritative intervention - which really is a label up north in Chicagoland.

This is what my department does.  When a youth, under 17 goes missing and they return, either by us or on their own, we write a citation for curfew violation.  This gets them into court and starts a paper trail to hold them accountable to a supervision order.  If they s***w it up, the get violated - we keep writing every time they g missing.  Eventually, the don't run away or they end up in the Audy Home - Juvenile detention - The problem is running away and being out all night - the bigger problem is What are they doing????  when they are gone.  Something much bigger is happening here - they should look hard at it.

  2. where i live in canada the cops don't bother actively looking for anyone over 14! if they happen to find her in a routine patrol or she is involved in a crimeor something they may take her home or to a safe house.

  3. For frequent runaways, they may be able to put an ankle monitor on her.  I'm not sure if they can do that if she's not on probation or parole, though.

  4. probably send them to juvenile hall.

  5. Um. She is 15.  She is a minor.

There is really not much they can do.

  6. Send her to a military school. Some people just don't learn until their choices are taken away from them.

  7. I'm in Crawford County, Ohio and here they put them in a juvenile jail.

Richland County ( Mansfield) does too.

  8. She can be charged as a runaway, usually the parents or guardians will have to file charges.  She would then be tried in Juvenile court and could wind up with anything from probation to Juvenile detention.  The cops are probably not taking you seriously because you are not willing to file charges against her.

  9. IF SHE KEEPS DOIN THAT SHE WILL GET JUVI  WELL A LOT MORE..

  10. :( sounds like they're already not taking you seriously. I'm really sorry to hear that. You might want to look into some rehabilitation or "scared straight" programs (though I imagine they're pretty pricey). Try and contact someone at the police department that will work with you in preventing her from running away. I would imagine they have to have some kind of program where they take kids for ride alongs or tours of jails  to really show them what can happen outside the safety of their homes. And if they don't have a program like that, maybe you could talk to them to set something up like that for your niece. *shrug* although I don't know how helpful they would be because it sounds like they just don't care already and that's really really sad. :( The whole situation just sounds rough all over, and I really do wish you and your niece the best of luck. <3
