What do Psychological Operations Specialists do?

I am joining the Army on Tuesday with the MOS of PSYOP Specialist. My reserve unit is schedule to deploy to Iraq in January. Does anyone know what to expect during AIT or what kind of missions I'll be doing on deployment??? Thanks!

  1. You will be instructed in all the latest methods of torture and how to do it. You will probably be assigned to Abu Grabe(sp) or somewhere similar. Enjoy

    Your specific tasking is classified and can't be discussed on an open forum like this, or on any unsecured network.

MVR is just trying to sound cool.  You'll be messing with people's minds.  Mostly gathering intelliegence from detainees and other individuals.  They also do propaganda things such as leaflets, and other writings.  However I'm guessing by the time you go to basic and complete school it will probably be after January.

  6. As a Psychological Operations Specialist your duties might include:

        * Researching and analyzing of methods of influencing foreign population from a variety of information sources.

        * Developing marketing and media products that includes handbills, trifolds, brochures, leaflets, posters, television commercials, web postings and/or radio scripts.

        * Operating and maintaining Psychological Operations equipment such as ground tactical vehicles and shelter systems, loudspeaker systems, state of the art computer, analog and digital recording and playback devices and communication systems.

        * Disseminating products that include the development, production and broadcasting of relevant information via television, radio, internet and newspaper media.

        * Traveling to overseas locations in peace, crisis and conflict to assist U.S. and foreign governments, militaries and civilian populations.
