I found a really cool site with very simple free games on it but don't understand all the lingo. I'm kinda figuring platform means levels, like the old Mario Bros. ?

  1. RPG= role playing games example: Doom

RTS= real time strategy example: Warhammer

  2. Kurosaki is wrong with his RPG example.

An RPG is indeed a Role Playing Game, although it tends to specify games with statistical growths. Think of pure RPGs as games like Final Fantasy and Dungeon and Dragons. There are hybrids as well too, such as Action RPGs, etc.

As Kurosaki said, a RTS is a Real Time Strategy game. That means you take the place of a commander who controls an army and builds structures such as barracks to maintain and build that army. Examples include Warcraft and Starcraft.

Platforming does mean games like Mario Brothers - games were you jump from one "platform" to another to get toward the endgoal.
