Question:

What do Shubunkin eggs look like?

We have 3 fish in our tank and recently came back off holiday to find the tank murky. We changed this straight away (just over a week ago). We now have what appears to be a mass of brown egg type stuff at the corner and amongst a green plant (does look like one has been unwell!!). Also amongst another plant is a mass of pinky/brown see through stuff, probably 2/3 days ago. Have they laid eggs? We have had 1 fish for about 6 months, then about 6 months ago added another 2 and transferred to a bigger tank. We have a Shubunkin which appears to have be chasing the other 2 for a few weeks. The other 2 are a Lemonhead and a Goldfish type. The Shubunkin does appear to be looking bigger round the belly. Help, what do I need to be doing? Thought we had been lucky and had all one s*x. Only have one tank here now as well. Would really appreciate all you help on this one. Many thanks - Jo

  1. goldfish eggs look the same, they are about this size  o, clear to golden colored if fertile or turn white if not fertile, they are scattered about randomly, not laid in mass, also goldfish eat their eggs and new hatchlings so I doubt there would be a mass of them, the shubunkin doing the chasing is your male one of the others must be female

eggs usually hatch within 3 days and you would see clear hair like things with eyes clinging to the sides of your aquarium

could what you are seeing be a ball of fungused food?

sorry I couldn't help you more

  2. Heres some great info with photos
