What do WILD painter turtles eat?

my little cousin found a painter turtle. i was just wondering what they eat? bugs? grass? i have a feeling he is hungry!

PLEASE RESPOND ASAP!!!!!!

Young ones are carnivores: insects, crustaceans, worms, fishes .... As they get older they add a little plant material to their diets.

Let it go where you found it.  First of all, it is likely that keeping a wild turtle is illegal in your state.  But mainly because turtles have very specific dietary and habitat needs, so they do not make good pets. They end up being very unhealthy or dying.  

They eat a variety of plant and animal matter in the wild, plus they require sunlight for vitamin D.  

Please do this poor creature a favor and set him free.
