  1. Wales is a country with two languages, Welsh and English. Welsh is spoken by only around 20% of the population, and with a population of approximately 2,980,700 that is less than 600,000 Welsh speakers.

The north west of Wales has the highest ratio of Welsh to English speakers, a greater number of Welsh speakers live in the more populous south, but the fact remains, only about 20% of Welsh people speak Welsh in Wales.

You are only Welsh if you are born in Wales, if you are born elsewhere you bear the nationality of the country you were born in, even if both your parents are Welsh, but, at least in recent history, you have a Welsh heritage.

Well goodness now !!  I guess, from your comment, that you are American, with a Welsh heritage then !!

  2. I trust from your reaction to Tebs comment that you are the person you are talking about.

Your ethnicity depends on what group YOU need recognition from.

Do you need Welsh born citizens to declare you Welsh?

Do you need your community that you live in now to declare you Welsh?

or, Can you define your own ethnicity based on your own ancestry?
