  1. OK. for yellow perch, you would want to use a bottom bouncer or a "crappie rig" fished on or near the bottom. A crappie rig is unique because it has two hooks on a spreader, so you can put more bait on. Using minnows is easily the most productive bait for yellow perch. Try putting on jig heads to attract more attention to the minnows on your crappie rig. I would use a size 4 or 6 hook, GO SMALL! Yellow perch are notorius for taking bait; they are tricky!

For white bass, you could use minnows too, but make sure you fish them on the top of the water. Usually, you have to find a school of white bass, so look for seagulls or birds diving for minnows. where there are minnows, there is usually a school or white bass following. When I fish for white bass on Lake Erie, I use what is called an Agitator (not sure on the spelling there). It is a BIG bobber with a fly tied about 1-2 feet down from the bobber. You can cast REALLY far using these, which raising your chances of catching them. BUT, these can be kinda hard to find, unless you are fishing an area know for its white bass.

Remember, both fish go in large schools, so once you catch one, be quick to rebate and cast to the same spot, because once you catch one, you could catch 50!!!

  2. live bait minnows and earth worms.  Perch are great when gigging along the bottom with a nightcrawler.

Small gigs work if in a boat, or a worm tipped gig.

Bass, small crank baits and spinners also work well.  Remember when you find a perch, drop a marker they will school, bass will not

  3. They eat smaller fish so live minnows are usually a good choice.
