What do Yr9 Sats really amount to?

I got a level 6.2 in my science sats, which for me is extremly c**p, because in both mocks i got Level 7.2. And in my GCSE essay's I got A and A*. And most of my set got Level 6's . So I was wondering do sats really amount to anything or are they just pointless.

  1. Honestly, they only matter for maths and science as you get put into sets according to your result. All other subjects are of mxed ability anyway so it really doesn't matter what you get for english.

However, if you mess up on your maths and science then it's no big deal, as your GCSE teachers will be able to see if your ability is better than the set you are in. Also, you are given tests at the beginning of GCSE's to see if you are in the right set so no biggy. Also, the set you are put into is more of a recommendation from your year 9 teachers rather than the results you got. A lot of my friends got level 6 and they got put into set 1 or 2 so don't worry!!!

  2. SATs are just to help teachers put you into sets for gcse's, and set your target/predicted grades

  3. they just put you in the groups for next year, and within a month or so you could be moved class anyway so i don't think they mean much, year10 and 11 are where you got to start working a bit harder

    good luck

  4. Nothing. Just targets for GCSE. and school league tables.

  5. They mainly allow teachers to see what sets to put you in for GCSEs for the core subjects.I havn't got my results back yet.

And by the sound of it, you've done well
