  1. Casting directors notify agencies of what/who they're looking for to play a particular role.  Agents put together a collection of people whom they think fit the criteria, and send them to audition for the role.

As your agent gets to know you and your capabilities, they will be better able to select things that you would be best for.

  2. Agents use their contacts to get you work. They take a percentage (typically 10-20%) of what you are paid.

If you book a job, you are paid, and so is your agent. It is up to you to land the job. More bookings=more money=happy agent=better bookings.

If you blow the audition too many times, your agent will be unhappy, and so will you. Show Business is a business. Never forget that. Nobody, but NObody is in Show Business to lose money.

You simply cannot start in Show Business by getting an agent. You have to prove that you can get people to pay you to act before an agent will even be interested.

Agents have bills to pay, also, and will not waste their time on a non-productive client.

  3. They help you get acting jobs per day. They get 10% of what you get from acting.

  4. they give you lots of auditions per day

  5. Agents search and give you audition dates and where they are located. They take a percentage out of the money you make from it. Yes it can be located out of state.

  6. Depends what kind of agent and how involved they are.  Most likely they will get you auditions and tell you what moves to make to advance your career.  And of course it could be out of state.
