  1. Hit the ball various distances. Some clubs are designed for special situations (sand, putting, etc.).

That's what golf clubs do, unless used by really bad golfers. :-)

  2. Driver - Hit from Tee 225-250yrd

    Fairways Wood (3 & 5)

Used to hit ball from fairway towards green

    3 Wood  200-225

    5 Wood 180-200

Irons Used for forward motiopn of the ball the differences are in average distance of each club

    3  180-200

    4   170-190

    5    160-180

    6    150-170

    7     135-155

    8     125-140

    9      110-130

Wedges used for closer distances High hits with little roll

    PW     100 yrds

    SW        85 yrds

    Gap Wedge 70yrds

    Lob Wedge   55 yrds

Putter for hitting ball on the green into the hold.

  3. None of them do anything.  The golfer does it.

  4. It's all about the distance and lie of the ball.   You start by hitting a Driver on the tee box.  Then when the ball is on the fairway you use a Fairway Wood or an Iron to shoot to the green (depending on the distance).   Then, you roll the ball to the hole with a putter.   It's as simple as that.

  5. driver hits it farthest... irons get it close to the green... wedges get it on the green... putter gets it in the hole
