Hey, I really want to become an astronomer or something like it because space is very interesting to m. But I heard they use a lot of math, which I suck at. What do they use it for and what kind of math do they use?

  1. To figure things out, or to make predictions. Stellar structure and celestial mechanics are two common examples.

  2. Hmm

the problem is that these days there really isn't any difference between astronomy and astrophysics. All astronomers are also astrophysicists. We are expected to be able to make physical interpretations of our observations.

So math is essential as we have to understand pretty much every branch of physics.

You would certainly need to do calculus and statistic and well as fairly serious algebra.

That said - why do you think you suck at it? Most people who say that have had a lack of opportunity to really learn math well. Maybe you just need to find the right teacher
