My son has decided he's going to be a picky eater. or at least thats how it appears lol. I'm running out of ideas for standard meals, or regular items for him to eat. he doesn't like cheerios much anymore, and isn't fond of spaghetti. I'm not sure what to give him for breakfast to make sure he gets what he needs for nutrition...and he doesn't like veggies, when he does eat them he doesn't eat alot. how do you know if they're getting enough of each food group? he's 15.5mths old, 3ft/32lbs. he's a big boy, so I know he eats more than alot of his age does, but it also leaves me a little lost? he also doesn't like milk anymore, I've been trying to supplement with yogurts and cheeses, but don't know if its enough?

  1. My son is almost 15 months, and for breakfast, he typically has pancakes or a waffle with scrambled eggs and grits. I have found that when he's having one of "those days" where he doesn't seem to want to eat anything, that I can make scrambled eggs or grits and he will always eat them.

Mine never ate vegetables either. But, I found this 3 bean salad that comes in a can. It's almost like pickled beans, they have some kind of seasoning on them. And he will eat almost an entire can of those. Since giving them to him, he now eats regular beans without seasoning.

He also wont drink milk. I bought some NesQuick strawberry milk mix and he will drink that. I also noticed he has one cup that he will drink anything out of just because he loves holding the cup.

He also likes fish sticks a lot. And if all else fails... I've noticed dipping things into ketchup gets him to eat pretty much anything. (I get the Heinz organic ketchup b/c it barely has any sugar in it and is not hydrogenated).

So that's my advice. =) Keep trying new foods with your son, and if you find there are certain foods he likes more than others, make those for him if you can't get him to eat anything else. The thing about kids.. they will eat when they are hungry.

Also - talk to his pediatrician about trying pediasure or some other supplemental drink. Since my son doesn't drink as much milk as I think he should.. I will usually give him a little bit of vanilla ice cream once every week or two, in addition to the cheeses and yogurts.

  2. Breakfast:

    Waffle or pancake

    Kix cereal with whole milk

eggs scrambled with veggies and chopped up ham

pumpkin bread (good source of fiber)

    zucchini bread

    banana bread

    Fruits:

    grapes cut in half

    Strawberries cut

    bananas

    apples cut into strips

    pineapple cut into finger food

Veggies: (dip in ketchup or ranch)

Boiled carrots and cut into strips so they are still finger foods but soft

    Green beans boiled with chicken

Corn (not fun when it comes to diapers)

peas (I lightly cover in intalienne dressing)

avacadoes cut into bite size squares

Squash and Zucchini in casseroles (email me if you want recipes)

    entrees:

    chicken boiled with noodles

footballs (2 cups instant rice cooked in 1 can of cream of chicken soup and 1 cup water)

ham steaks cut into strips with fried potatoes

    rotisserie chicken with mashed potatoes

mac n' cheese with hamburger meat and frozen veggies (all mixed together- I also substitute ground turkey for the hamburger meat)

desperate times call for desperate measure foods:

    yogurt

    string cheese

    peanut butter and jelly

    grilled cheese

    hot dogs

  3. My daughters are the same age and are the same EXACT way. They both refuse eating. This is what i did and it worked, a little. I put them in the high chair and cut the food in small piece and i just let them feed themselves'. Toddler's like to eat on their own, and if they don't like it then wait couple of hours and give them the same food again. I think its a phase that they go throu because of teething, maybe he has upset stomach (if he hasn't ate). GOOD LUCk, if this gets worse for then 2 days take him to the doctor.
