Me and my bff found baby sand lizards. We have had them for a day. We want to know what they eat ,and maybe some cool ideas on how to give them water. And some other cool ideas like how to heat them up.

p.s. We don't have a pet store for an hour every way.

  1. keeping wild caught lizards in captivity (as pets) is cruel immoral and environmentally reprehensible when a wild animal i removed from its natural environment and put in a confined space it causes massive amounts of stress. this affects herps (reptiles and amphibians) very badly worse than most other orders many die simply from the stress of being in captivity it also weakens there immune system meaning more die from disease. those that survive suffer from stress related behavior disorders, stress related illness and have a shortened life span. there quality of life is pretty bad too

also u clearly dont know how to keep it correctly. put it back before u kill it

  2. Well you really need to put them back where you found them. You don't even know how to properly take care of them and they are babies - they can die.

I have a feeling your not going to do the above, so you need to visit your pet store no matter how far away it is. If you weren't pepared to take care of them you shouldnt have pulled them from their natural habitat.

They probably eat some type of veggie and can eat crickets, meal worms, calci worms, etc.

They need certain tank size, substrate, lighting and heating - be prepared to spend at least 50 - 75 dollars, AT LEAST!!

If you can't afford this PUT THEM BACK!!!

Be careful - might be in extinction, and if it is native to your land may be considered illigal to keep as pet.

  3. I suspect they're strictly insectivorous, but yes, like above poster said, release them since it seems like you're new to herp keeping.  You NEED a UVB light strip, which is not cheap, and you can only get that at a pet store.  You also need to keep them warm with a basking light, and I suspect you have no clamp hood for that either.  You will need to regularly feed it small crickets (no bigger than the space between its eyes) and have a small water bowl in at all times.  I'm not sure how big it is, its probably just a fence lizard, which means if its a juvie a 10 gallon would be great for one, if not a minimum 15-20 long for more than one juvie or adult.  Seriously though, if you don't know what species it is, LET IT GO, as you can't provide the exact care it needs, and its very possibly illegal to keep if you have an endangered/threatened/protected species on your hands.
