Unwanted child

flights of stairs

mother tumbled

to rid the fetus inside

her efforts failed

babe's fate

strangely told

from ankle to waist

back of leg

brightly marked

port wine stain.

As child ages

she walks alone

crooked spine

one leg longer

birth marked leg

an inch shorter

constant reminder

any dreams

she may fathom

out of reach

they'll remain

her fate foretold

said banner of

port wine stain.

Imperfections

seen outward

none notice

heart broken

brunt of jokes

she laughs

at them all

secretly willing

be invisible please

this young girl

with birthmark

emblazoned

on leg

port wine stain.

  1. Mornin ma. Very nicely done. I really don't know what they're about. Just imperfections in the skin pigment of someone. LOL

  2. I don't know...........but I am glad to see you back ma.

My birthmark is in my brain.

  3. I have no idea MA..I have one at the base of my spine I am told, never seen it though..

    Valkyre, cool dog...

  4. That's sad. People ( especially ) kids can be so cruel.Everyone needs to think,,That could be me.

I know a baby who was born with a strawberry stain over both her eye lids.  The older she gets, it fades ever so slightly.  She looks like she has eye shadow on and it's really cute.

  5. I'm not sure, but i have several of them.

I was born with a ton.

    xD

    ♥

  6. To me they are nothing but beauty marks.  Love honey

  7. you have been busy

i've been working on another one too, when i finnish it i'll show you

  8. we are all marked at birth...seems you were marked to write thought provoking and very good poetry.  Mine is at the inner corner of my left eye.  Mostly faded with age, but as a child extended to my eyelid.

  9. Are they simply a badge of courage?

    Maybe so.

  10. My girl has a giant birthmark on the side of her stomach--it fades into her hip.  I hope no one ever makes fun of her or I'll have to become REALLY evil.

Birthmarks are where Goddess Diana touched the baby before she was born.

  11. Powerful soul baring piece

We all have scars from childhood

that we carrying in our back-packs,

    heart-packs or our soul packs.

The question is will they define you

or just be an  *  in the footnotes of your life?

  12. I like this poem a lot. I have seen this story in some children and it's very sad indeed. I try to be the champion of such kids that have serious physical trauma.  They are often very beautiful inside their heart in spite of difficulties they deal with. I have a sweet and bright young friend like  that who had brain cancer at age 2, stroke at age 4, and a brace and some leftover side affects. Very bright but can't read now.  She is beautiful, outwardly and inwardly. Many have taken the time to know her, some  do not. Kids can be cruel and so can't adults, sadly. . She's 20 now.

My son had a strawberry on his stomach at birth. It faded within the year. I don't recall now what it's from, but there's an explanation that's  escaped my memory.

  13. Nice poem. I always heard that that is where you are the most beautiful. I have one on my left ankle. Not to  noticeable now.
