My dad is full Italian, and he looks like it too. My mom is English, Irish, Scottish, ect. she has (not anymore they are green now) blue eyes and blonde hair, so they beat my dads genes. Anyway...I am obsessed with my eyes, they were very very dark blue when I was younger now they sort of pop and are lighter but not light light blue. What do blue eyes mean? And if my mom's genes are strong will mine be when I have children?

  1. brown eyes are dominant over blue eyes dont get mad but this is sience.  meaning that nature inteded to brown eyes to be better than grey, green, hazel, blue eyes

  2. Listen to Shirley T.  Be careful about ascribing value judgments like "strong" and "better" based on the term genetic term "dominant" (or "weak" or "inferior" with the genetic term "recessive").

  3. It is very likely your father also carries some recessive blue eyed genes.  My father was blue eyed and he had a brown eyed mother and a blue eyed father.    Brown eyes are dominant but the chances are greater for a brown eyed person who marries a blue eyed person to have a blue eyed child, if  that brown eyed person has recessive blue eyed genes.

What your children will have is a toss up.  No one can really predict that.  My mother also had brown eyes.  She had one hazel eyed daughter, one blue eyed daughter(myself) and one brown eyed daughter.

Edit: I might add there are no doubt other things about you that come from your father.  Most of your DNA is autosomal.  You get it 50-50 from both parents and it determines your physical characteristics such as pigmentation, eye coloring, height and in my case a bone anomaly in my foot that I got from my maternal grandfather.

Too many people think a person looks like a particular parent because they have the same pigmentation as that parent and they overlook things like facial shape and body build.

  4. Blue eyes doesn't "mean" anything.  You have blue eyes, that is it plain and simple.  It doesn't make you better, smarter, stronger, etc.

Your mom's genes do not "beat" your dad's because she is English, Irish, and Scottish.  If anything, her genes do not "beat"  your dad's because she has blue eyes and blonde hair, which are recessive genes, which means that 99% of the time, you HAD to get the genes from BOTH parents.  Just because your dad looks Italian does not mean he does not carry the recessive genes for blonde hair and blue eyes.  Chances are nearly 100% that he does in order for you to have those traits.  It is rare, and odds are against it, that he would pass on to you the dominant genes of dark hair and brown eyes and you still come out with blue eyes and blonde hair.  If that is the case, ONLY then can you say that your mom's genes "beat" his, but you can only know that for sure with genetic testing.

Be careful about being "obsessed" with your eyes.  Vanity won't gain you anything important in life, but could lose you alot that is important to you.
