  1. The Eastern Bluebird's diet consists of 2/3 insects and some fruit. The chief insects they eat include beetles, grasshoppers, and caterpillars. In late summer and fall the bluebirds eat a variety of small fruits such as blackberries, raspberries, elderberries, currents and grapes.  Bluebirds feed by perching on a high point, such as a branch or fence post, and swooping down to catch insects.

  2. Out in the wild, I think insects.  For your birdfeeder get live meal worms.  A good bird-watcher's store will sell them.  Technically they are a beetle larvae, but they are called meal worms.  You keep them in the fridge which puts them in a kind of sleep.  Put them out in the feeder and every Bluebird within miles will come.  One of my neighbors feeds them every day at the same time, and now the bluebirds come at that time and wait for her to come out.  One actually sits on her doorknob waiting for the meal worms.  You can also buy them online - no kidding!  I purchases some from a guy called Worm Man.  You can do a search for him.  Also some of the big pet shops sell them, because iguanas and lizards also eat them.  You have to ask for them because they are kept refrigerated
