  1. the first guy is soooo wrong. we use wraps to protect our hands. u can buy wraps on amazon for 5 bucks a pair, and it doesn't hurt to add a gauze under the wrap as well, but the wrap is great.

  2. ya i think boxers just use athletic tape just to keep the gloves on

  3. they use both tape and gauze. they also use hand-wraps (long cloth that wraps the hand) and in professional fights they use knuckle pads as well. All these things plus the gloves are for the purpose of protecting the boxers wrists by keeping them steady and not bent and also to protect the boxers hands from impact. there is also tape that goes on top of the gloves but that isn't to keep them in place it is b/c on gloves used in professional fights there are laces up the inside of the gloves and the tape is there to protect the opposing boxing from getting cut by the laces or poked in the eyes.

  4. We use a gauze under cotton handwraps. For training and bagwork many people use elasticated wraps but most boxers use 100% cotton for competition. Reason being they make your fist tighter and allow less movement of the hand at impact. we use tape over the gauze and handwraps (normally just surgical tape) to hold the wraps in place as over a 12 round fight they will move on your hand no matter how well they are wrapped.

  5. Silly Putty

  6. It's a handwrap, which mainly is used to protect the wrist. It also protects the hand from injury against heavy impact (training on the boxing bag etc)

  7. you put what they call wraps on your hands they are cloth strips about 40mm wide and you can buy them from any sports store or gym that has boxing
